Volunteering Wales Grants awarded to 34 projects to create 1576 volunteering opportunities in Wales. WCVA is pleased to announce that the Welsh Government funding for Volunteering Wales Grants, has been awarded to 34 projects in Wales for 2019/20, which will create volunteering opportunities across Wales.  Volunteering by young people is encouraged and supported through this grant scheme, and 7 of these projects will specifically enable young people aged 14 - 25 to volunteer in their communities.

The Volunteering Wales Grants aim to support formal volunteering projects that recruit, support, train and place new volunteers. The grants have been allocated to projects that have demonstrated they are able to contribute to delivering outcomes against one or more of the priority areas of the Welsh Government's strategy, 'Prosperity for All' (early years, housing, better mental health, skills and employability and housing). All projects are also expected to contribute towards a sixth priority of decarbonisation.

The projects will make a contribution towards outcomes in all priority areas, with a strong focus towards better mental health and employability.

The full amount of funding of£630,124 was awarded to the 34 projects which aim to enable1576 volunteers to contribute135,758 hours of volunteering in communities across Wales, which represents a contribution of£1,732,272* to the Welsh economy.

Andrea Wayman, CEO of Elite Supported Employment stated that 'we are extremely pleased to be receiving a grant from Volunteering Wales. This grant will enable Elite to engage 30 volunteers, who will contribute valuable support to our charity and its participants aiding in their personal and vocational development'.
